Thirty Injured in University of Maryland Bus Crash

A University of Maryland commuter bus crashed into a pole near campus Wednesday, injuring 30 passengers. Prince George’s County Fire and EMS reported that the crash occurred between Baltimore Avenue and a University Boulevard off-ramp in College Park, north of the campus.

The cause of the accident is unknown, and Prince George’s Police Department closed southbound Route 1 for several hours to investigate. A University of Maryland spokesperson said the school was informed of the crash and is gathering additional information and supporting those involved or injured. Thirty passengers were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries; 26 refused treatment, and the others were treated and released.
