Substitute at Halethorpe Elementary Being Investigated for Sexual Abuse
August 25, 2020The Baltimore County police are currently investigating a possible sexual abuse incident at Halethorpe Elementary School. This incident was reported on the evening of Feb. 11 by a student’s parent accusing a substitute teacher of assault on their child. The parent filed a report stating that a female substitute teacher abused at least one fourth grade student. The behavior by the substitute is quoted as “bizarre” as she attempted to physically grab children, trip them and kissed at least one of them. Halethorpe Elementary immediately investigated the reports and removed the teacher from the classroom. She is no longer working with the school system.
Although substitute teachers are required to undergo a background check and fingerprinting prior to being hired, it is still possible for an abuser to enter the classroom. The substitute teacher from Halethorpe Elementary not only abused students physically, but she has abused them mentally. These students were sexually harassed and will have to overcome this traumatic incident. Incidents such as sexual abuse, medical malpractice and truck accidents are serious and can cause many different problems for the victim throughout their lives. These type of situations should be taken seriously and handled with care.
