New Enhanced Underinsured Motorist Policy Available to Drivers

New Enhanced Underinsured Motorist Policy Available to DriversA new Enhanced Underinsured Motorist (EUIM) policy became available to drivers in Maryland as of July 1. Classified under Maryland Annotated Code Insurance Section #19-509.1, the new car insurance law may be added to new insurance policies. The EUIM offers stronger protection to any occupants of an insured vehicle who are injured in a car accident due to the negligence of an uninsured driver. Depending on the car insurance carrier, drivers may request that the policy be added to existing insurance policies. It is highly recommended that insured drivers in the state of Maryland contact their insurance providers to see if they are eligible to add the new protection to their current policies.

Typically, when someone has been in a wreck, their first thought is not whether the other driver is insured or not. Most victims in a crash worry about damage to their cars and especially the condition of their loved ones who may have also been involved in the accident. Unfortunately, if the other motorist who is at-fault does not have insurance, medical expenses and car repairs may pose a financial hardship for the victims since no funds exist to cover the bills. EUIM will safeguard victims in these circumstances and provide the necessary coverage they need to recover after an unexpected crash.
