Fatal Military Helicopter Crash in Southern Maryland

On Monday afternoon, a military helicopter crashed at a golf course in Southern Maryland, causing one fatality and personal injuries for two other individuals. The accident involving a US Army Blackhawk helicopter occurred around 2 pm, in Leonardtown, St. Mary’s County, Maryland during a “routine training flight.” One crewmember succumbed to fatal injuries after the helicopter crash, and two other members were brought to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with critical and serious injuries. The helicopter crash is being investigated.

Although helicopter crashes may be viewed as uncommon occurrences, when they do take place the results may be catastrophic. In some cases, the reasons for the crash could originate from defective parts contained in the aircraft or an improperly maintained conveyance. If the pilots did not have enough experience or inadequate training, they may have been unable to control the helicopter before it crashed.
