Baltimore Medical Malpractice Lawyers: Local Anesthesiologist Facing ChargesJune 6, 2016
When a doctor engages in inappropriate behavior towards a patient, it is a serious violation of the doctor-patient relationship. That is allegedly what happened between a local anesthesiologist and three of his female patients between 2012 and 2014. The Maryland State Board of Physicians has charged Bryan S. Williams with sexual misconduct. According to the female patients, Dr. Williams touched the women inappropriately during a number of medical examinations.
Dr. Williams is licensed to practice in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia, and had been working in offices in Kensington and Largo, Maryland when one of the patients came in, seeking treatment for lower back pain. According to the patient, Dr. Williams touched her inappropriately during two separate appointments. During one visit, he allegedly touched her repeatedly beneath her surgical gown, and when she demanded an explanation, he told her not to worry. Even after her primary care doctor reported him to Kaiser, the medical care provider, she continues to suffer from anxiety from the ordeal. She has since been prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
Two other women allegedly experienced similar behavior at the hands of Dr. Williams. Documents report that when one of the other female patients expressed discomfort with what he was doing, he ignored her and continued to touch her inappropriately. She also reported the doctor’s actions to her primary care doctor, who reported it to Kaiser. A third patient also reported his behavior to the primary care doctor, who brought it to the attention of the state medical board.
Dr. Williams denies the allegations, saying that they are untrue and hurtful. When asked why he thought these women were accusing him, he suggested that perhaps they did not understand the exam process. Kaiser responded by saying that patient safety is their top priority and that they do not tolerate behavior that threatens patients in any way. When it comes to sexual misconduct, they take these allegations very seriously.
