Baltimore Personal Injury Lawyers Discuss Roller Coaster AccidentJune 8, 2016
A fun day at an amusement park for a father and his six-year-old son recently took a terrifying turn when the boy’s seatbelt came unfastened while riding a roller coaster. The boy’s father, who planned on videoing the two of them on the ride, ended up recording the moment when his son’s seatbelt came undone, which resulted in the boy being thrown to the bottom of the cart. The father was able to react quickly and grab his son, holding on to him tightly and trying to reassure and keep him calm until the ride ended. Thankfully, the boy was not hurt, but the incident could have had deadly consequences. When the safety features of roller coaster are not checked and maintained on a regular basis, it can result in very serious, if not fatal injuries.
While the boy’s father in this case was glad his son was not injured, he was not happy with the response he got from the individual who was operating the ride after he notified him about the faulty seatbelt. According to the park employee, this was not the first time this happened. The operator of the ride continued to let people on, just not in the back car which had the broken seatbelt.
A representative of the amusement park called Wonderland contacted the father that evening. The father was told that the car he and his son rode in was removed and all the seatbelts on the other cars were checked to make sure they were working properly. According to the park official, they conduct safety inspections every day. That particular ride did not originally come equipped with seatbelts, but the park had them installed to ensure the safety of the ride.
