Tragedy Strikes When Trucks and Cars Collide

Our law firm works hard to achieve fair compensation for clients injured through the negligence of others. We frequently handle vehicle accidents and witness too often the serious injury resulting from collisions between cars and trucks.

I talked recently about the danger of young adult drivers with passengers. Passengers provide ample distraction to teens, pushing up crash rates as inexperienced drivers interact with their friends. A harrowing accident that occurred on January 4, 2013 brings home this point.

Police in Howard County believe an 18-year old driver failed to obey the stop sign at the side exit of Mount Hebron high school. While there is a traffic signal at the main entrance to the school, the exit used by the teen some 500 feet west of the signal has only the stop sign.

About ten minutes following dismissal, the Honda Civic driven by a student and carrying four other students attempted to exit onto Route 99 from the parking lot. While it is not clear whether the Civic was attempting to turn left or right, law enforcement does not believe the 43-year old driver of the Mack truck that struck the teens was speeding.

While his four passengers were treated and released from Howard County General Hospital, the driver remains in critical condition.
