Baltimore Hospital Negligence Attorneys: Recent Medication RecallsAugust 30, 2012
Pharmaceutical and over-the-counter drug recalls frequently make the news.
In the last several years, Johnson & Johnson, a trusted name in consumer care, recalled a number of products, including their popular Children’s Tylenol. Many products like Infants’ Tylenol, Pepcid Complete, and 8-Hour Tylenol remain off shelves given delays in addressing production problems. Other subsidiaries of Johnson & Johnson recalled surgical sutures, artificial hips, and insulin pump cartridges.
Recalls due to contamination or defect are common. Many times a company discovers problems and takes steps to voluntarily recall the product. Other times, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) becomes involved.
Staying aware of dangerous products and practices is important. A cluster of recent recalls includes products from Novartis Consumer Health, Inc. In January, Novartis recalled production lots of Excedrin, NoDoz, Bufferin, and Gas-X Prevention. The drug manufacturer initiated the recall based on investigation of consumer complaints about broken tablets and the possibility of bottles containing mixed tablets.
In June of this year, Novartis announced voluntary recall of 10 lots of Introvale, a generic birth control pill, for defective packaging.
In my legal practice, representing clients injured or poisoned by defective or inappropriately prescribed drugs is an important way of helping individuals who suffer harm through the negligence of others. Personal injury lawsuits also serve to alert the public to harm they might suffer down the next grocery aisle.
