Auto Accident Attorneys in Baltimore: The Who, What, Where on Car Accidents

Car, truck, and motorcycle accidents happen every day in Maryland.  Down the street, or on the highway, someone glances away, someone takes a drink  —  and someone gets hurt.

My office represents clients injured in accidents of all kinds. We provide strong representation to people pressured to accept low settlement offers, and people with serious injuries who need serious financial compensation to get life back on track.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 493 people died on Maryland state roads in 2010.  Understanding accident factors helps avoid accidents, and may help you avoid being a fatality down the road.

Based on five-year data between 2005 and 2009, following are general factors of road accidents according to the Maryland Highway Safety Office:

  • Month. Just over 30 percent of fatal collisions occur between April and June.  August through October see 27 percent of collisions causing injury, and over 27 percent of all collisions occur October through December.
  • Day. Over 30 percent of injurious vehicle accidents occur on Friday or Saturday.
  • Time. More collisions, and collisions with injury, occur between 2 PM and 6 PM.  Over 30 percent of fatal injuries occur between 6 PM and 10 PM.
  • Who. Younger drivers ages 16 through 29 represent 30 percent of those involved in accidents, over 35 percent of those injured, and 28 percent of those killed in vehicle accidents.  Men and women are about equally involved in accidents, but men represent 79 percent of traffic fatalities.
